Our Services
We work with local and specialist teams to provide haemoglobinopathy services across the East Midlands. Below you will find our network sites, key contacts, and locations to help you access the right service. Services are delivered through University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) and Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH), working in collaboration with local haemoglobinopathy teams (LHTs).
Leicester (University Hospitals of Leicester – SHT)
The Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team, based in Leicester, provides haemoglobinopathy care to local patients and clinical leadership for the Southern part of the East Midlands. The team supports local services through specialist clinics, advice, and education/training, to ensure high quality and coordinated care for patients with Sickle Cell Disorder, Thalassaemia or Rare Inherited Anaemia’s.

Nottingham (Nottingham University Hospitals – SHT)
The Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team, based in Nottingham, delivers specialist services to patients based in Nottinghamshire, and regional expertise to local haemoglobinopathy teams across the Northern part of the East Midlands. Working in close collaboration with UHL and EMSTN, the team provides clinical care, professional support and shared pathways with local services to ensure consistent, patient-centred care across the network.

EMSTN Citizens Advice Welfare Service
EMSTN works in conjunction with Citizens Advice Bureau to deliver free and confidential advice for patients and families affected by sickle cell disorder, thalassaemia or rare inherited anaemia’s across the East Midlands, including clients living in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinhamshire and Derbyshire.
The advice can be offered on a range of social welfare issues, such as; welfare benefits, debt, housing enquiries, employment, family and relationships, immigration, discrimination and consumer issues.
Advice will be delivered remotely to support as many people as possible. Referrals can be completed by healthcare professionals, or self-referrals will be accepted. For self referrals and further information, please visit: https://citizensadviceleicestershire.org/emstn/
